Bavarian High-Tech Awards awarded for the first time

Young Investigator Award for cancer researcher at TUM University Hospital

The Bavarian State Government, together with the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities, has awarded the Bavarian High-Tech Awards to promising talents and outstanding researchers for the first time. Among the winners is Dr. Jacqueline Lammert, who leads the "AI in Women's Health" research team at TUM University Hospital. She received the 30,000 euro prize for young researchers.

Dr. Jacqueline Lammert is an oncologist and AI expert. She was awarded the Young Talent Prize at the Bavarian High-Tech Awards for her research.

The High-Tech Young Investigator Award is endowed with 30,000 euros and recognizes visionary research with innovation potential. The award is targeted at researchers based at Bavarian universities, research institutions or start-up based in Bavaria and who are researching key technologies that are funded by the Hightech Agenda Bayern innovation initiative.

Dr. Jacqueline Lammert is a clinician scientist and group leader at the Clinic and Polyclinic for Gynecology at TUM Hospital. She specializes in large language models in women's health.  Her research group is dedicated to how we can develop AI systems into valuable decision-making tools for precision medicine. Another research focus is on factors that influence the risk of breast cancer and cardiovascular disease in women with mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes.

Investing in Bavaria’s Future

The awards were presented at a ceremony in the Hercules Hall of the Munich Residence. Minister President Dr. Markus Söder said at the award ceremony: "High-tech has a firm home in Bavaria! Bavaria is a top location for innovation and progress. We integrate science and business, create a unique innovative ecosystem and support start-ups with strong technology funding. We are setting standards! With the Hightech Agenda Bayern, we are investing 5.5 billion in areas such as AI, quantum technology, aerospace and cleantech. That is unique in Germany!"

Science Minister Markus Blume said: "With the Bavarian High-Tech Awards, we are celebrating the commitment to the future of the Free State, the universities and research institutions, the start-ups and our researchers, who make the world a little better every day with their ideas. Because progress is part of Bavaria's DNA. The big questions of the future will be answered in Bavaria through innovation - because we invest massively in the brightest minds and key technologies.

Eight awards presented

In addition to the Young Talent Award and the Bavarian Minister President's High-Tech Award, the Pioneer Award of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities was also presented. In addition, five engineering graduates from Bavarian universities were honored with the High-Tech Graduate Award for outstanding degrees or doctorates.
