Mobility at Campus
Whether it's subway, bus, or bicycle: There are many offers for sustainable mobility at the TUM campuses. Here you can find out everything you need to know about the Deutschlandticket for students, public transport services on campus, and the bike infrastructure on site.
Deutschlandticket for Students
As of the winter semester 2023/24, in Bavaria the Deutschlandticket for students has replaced the previous semester ticket. The ticket is only offered on a subscription basis and costs 29 euros per month. It allows the use of local transport throughout Germany.
Please note: Deutschlandtickets for students issued by MVG automatically expire at the end of the semester. To renew the subscription, you must upload proof of enrollment for the following semester to the MVG customer portal. Further information on the Deutschlandticket for students can be found at the Munich transport company MVG.
From the winter semester 2024/25, the semester ticket for students at Heilbronn campus will also no longer be available. Besides the Deutschlandticket, students under the age of 27 in Baden-Württemberg can also purchase a 365-euro annual ticket for local public transport. For more information, visit the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transport page.
Public transport on campus
All TUM campuses are easily accessible by public transportation. Overviews of the stops and timetable information are available from the respective providers:
- Munich, Garching, and Weihenstephan: Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund (MVV)
- Straubing: Stadtwerke Straubing
- Heilbronn: Heilbronner Hohenloher Haller Nahverkehr (HNV)
University by bike
A bike is often the best means of transportation to get from home to the university or from the lecture hall to the cafeteria. There are numerous bike stands, air pumps, and repair stations at the TUM campuses. You will find an overview here shortly. In addition, MVG and the Student Union also support mobility on two wheels at TUM:
- MVG Rad provides rental bikes in Munich and Garching – also to the TUM campuses. Here you can find overviews of the stations in Munich and the stations in Garching.
- The initiative ReparadTUM of the Environmental Department TUM’s Student Council regularly offers self-help workshops for bike repair at the Garching campus. More info and all dates can be found on the Instagram page of ReparadTUM.
