We cultivate a culture of appreciation, openness, and diversity. The Staff Unit Diversity & Equal Opportunities, the Gender Equality Officer, and other institutions are taking strategic measures to achieve this goal.
We promote equal opportunities for all members of our university, independent of gender, nationality, religion or worldview, physical ability, age or sexual orientation. With the Senior Vice President for Talent Management and Diversity, Prof. Claudia Peus, the Staff Unit Diversity & Equal Opportunities, and the Gender Equality Officer, these values are firmly anchored at the heart of the university: through a strong network, personal counseling, a wide range of events, family services, and much more.
Gender Equality Officer
The Gender Equality Office advises women and is represented on TUM committees by the Gender Equality Officer. It organizes seminars, workshops and events and coordinates the network.
The Staff Unit Diversity & Equal Opportunities is responsible for the development, design, and implementation of TUM's Gender and Diversity Strategy. The unit provides guidance, targeted programs, and a comprehensive range of events for all members.
The Women of TUM network offers inspiring talks and events, providing a platform for women from diverse backgrounds and disciplines to connect and engage.
Whether you are looking for childcare or have a family member in need of care, we help you navigate the complexities of balancing work, study and family.
The online platform provides babysitting and tutoring services for families with childcare needs, even at short notice and for children of different ages.
The Gender Equality Office provides a range of resources and programs designed to support students and researchers in their career planning, including coaching, career-building initiatives, and diversity seminars.
These education programs are designed for a variety of audiences, including professionals and managers, employees, students, and lecturers. They contain several formats, such as diversity training, leadership development, and unconscious stereotype awareness in teaching.
Our actions are based on the measures set forth by the DGEP, which include diversity training, part-time management, gender-equitable personnel selection, and relevant research.
Principles of cooperation: With the TUM Respect Guide, all members of our university commit themselves to respectful behaviour in their demeanor, in their actions and interactions.
We inspire, promote and develop talents in all their diversity to become responsible, broad-minded individuals. These values are embedded in our mission statement.
Our tenure-track system aims to increase the number of women in academic positions through gender-equitable appointment procedures, an early start to a career as a professor and the compatibility of family and job.
The Vice Deans for Talent Management & Diversity have been appointed at all schools and for Campus Straubing. This allows local measures to be taken in line with the university-wide diversity strategy.
The department promotes an inclusive and non-discriminatory environment within the university community. Its activities include conflict resolution, sharing experiences and organizing events.
Gender equity in hiring and promotion is essential for innovation. Our guide provides an overview of common stereotypes and current scientific evidence.
Gender-sensitive management and recruitment processes
The recommendations of the Chair of Research and Science Management deal with gender-specific attributions, evaluation, and feedback practices. They are a result of the BMBF-funded project FührMINT:
With the Agnes-Mackensen-Program, we strengthen the self-efficacy of first-generation academics and promote their leadership skills and personal development.
An online training course on unconscious bias is available to all TUM professors. It contains various practical examples from our own everyday life at the university.
With the "Women in STEM Round Table" format, we present inspiring role models for a career in STEM. All female bachelor’s and master’s students as well as doctoral students and postdocs at TUM are invited, plus young women still in school interested in STEM and therefore women, intersex, non-binary, transgender and agender people.
Research on gender and diversity is an integral part of our university. This includes areas such as sport and health sciences, research and science management, as well as various degree programs that deal with the topic.
