System Accreditation at TUM
TUM was system-accredited by the Swiss Center of Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Higher Education (OAQ) on 14 May 2014, with no stipulations imposed. The system-accreditation was renewed on 26 June 2020 and is valid through 30 September 2028. It applies to all degree programs that have passed TUM's internal quality management assessment procedures.
The accreditation procedure essentially consists of an internal self-evaluation followed by a series of external appraisals conducted by an agency certified by the Accreditation Council.
The benchmarks used in this procedure include the 'European Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in Higher Education' (ESG) as well as the criteria specified by the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education in Germany (Kultusministerkonferenz, KMK) and the Accreditation Council.
In Bavaria, all bachelor's and master's programs are subject to accreditation - a provision based on Article 10 of the Bavarian Higher Education Act (Bayerisches Hochschulgesetz).
A list of accredited degree programs is available through the database of the Accreditation Council (in German).
