From skill sets to an overall concept

GARMI care robot becomes a universal assistant

For the first time, the assistance robot GARMI demonstrates that it can directly combine specific skills and support seniors throughout the day. With the help of a digital twin, artificial intelligence and ChatGPT, the care assistant from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) conducts caregiving tasks such as bringing water and breakfast to the bedside, booking medical appointments and setting up and facilitating telemedical examinations. It also helps care recipients to get out of bed and do rehabilitation exercises.

Combining robotics and ChatGPT

TUM professor uses ChatGPT for choreographies with flying robots

Prof. Angela Schoellig from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) uses ChatGPT to develop choreographies for swarms of drones to perform along to music. An additional safety filter prevents mid-air collisions. The researchers' results demonstrate for the first time that large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT can be used in robotics.

TUM Autonomous Motorsports wins spectacular race in Abu Dhabi

Victory for TUM AI racers on Formula 1 track

The TUM vehicle controlled by artificial intelligence has achieved first place in an international race on the Formula 1 track in Abu Dhabi. Without a human driver or remote control, using only the superior autonomous software, the fully automated vehicle was able to prevail against seven other international teams with identical racing cars. It independently searched for the limits, mastered spectacular overtaking maneuvers and speeds of up to 250 km/h on the winding track.

New Siemens Technology Center at TUM Campus Garching

Siemens opens its largest cooperation center worldwide at TUM

At the new Siemens Technology Center (STC) on the TUM Campus Garching, 150 TUM staff and researchers will work with more than 450 Siemens specialists on new solutions related to digital twins, the industrial internet of things, robotics and automation. Bavarian Minister President Dr. Markus Söder, TUM President Prof. Thomas F. Hofmann, the CTO of Siemens Peter Körte and State Minister for Science and Arts Markus Blume were on hand to open the new research facility.

Pioneering approach to conflicting goals

Hybrid intelligence can reconcile biodiversity and agriculture

Preserving biodiversity without reducing agricultural productivity: So far, these two goals could not be reconciled because the socio-ecological system of agriculture is highly complex, and the interactions between humans and the environment are difficult to capture using conventional methods. Thanks to new technology, a research team at the Technical University of Munich and the University of Hohenheim show a promising way to achieve both goals at the same time. The members of the team focus on further developing artificial intelligence in combination with collective human judgement: the use of hybrid intelligence.

Two projects from TUM seminar on responsible AI top the list

Students from TUM and LMU win Digital Future Challenge

With “EduPin” and “AI Allies”, two projects from the TUM seminar “Responsible AI” have taken first and second place in the Digital Future Challenge. In the university competition organized by Initiative D21 and the Deloitte Foundation, the students from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU) prevailed against more than 50 teams from all over Germany. The Digital Future Challenge is endowed with 10,000 euros and is held under the patronage of the Federal Minister for Digital and Transport, Volker Wissing.
