Social inequality takes root from the very first day of an educational journey. Children from families without an academic background are much less likely to go to university. Johannes Michalke wants to change that. With “Sailsetters” he founded a TUM Student Club that supports disadvantaged children and young people. In our interview, he shares what drives him – and why equal opportunities in education benefit us all.

Board of Trustees confirms incumbent

Thomas F. Hofmann re-elected President of TUM

Prof. Thomas F. Hofmann will remain at the helm of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) for another six years. On Monday, the university's Board of Trustees re-elected him as President with a clear majority. This is Hofmann's second term in office. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Heyo K. Kroemer, said: "I am delighted that Prof. Hofmann will continue to steer TUM on its excellent course of success as President."

Bavarian High-Tech Awards awarded for the first time

Young Investigator Award for cancer researcher at TUM University Hospital

The Bavarian State Government, together with the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities, has awarded the Bavarian High-Tech Awards to promising talents and outstanding researchers for the first time. Among the winners is Dr. Jacqueline Lammert, who leads the "AI in Women's Health" research team at TUM University Hospital. She received the 30,000 euro prize for young researchers.

Third victory for tunnel boring team

TUM Boring wins tunnel boring competition and sets new record

Third participation in the competition, third victory: the student tunnel boring team TUM Boring wins again at the international "Not-A-Boring Competition" in the USA. During the seven-day competition, the team from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) set a new length record of 22.5 meters and ultimately took the overall victory.

The aerospace company Boeing is a new member of the TUM Industry Engagement Program (IEP). This platform offers industrial companies direct access to the unique European ecosystem of the Technical University of Munich (TUM). It aims to identify common interests between researchers and companies, develop promising fields of innovation, and promote talent. In addition, TUM and Boeing have extended their research framework agreement.

Wanted: Innovative projects for study and teaching

The TUM Future Learning Initiative 2025 starts

Dynamic, competence-oriented, and at the cutting edge – the teaching of the future is being shaped at TUM. Who knows better what it takes than our students, teaching staff, and alumns. The TUM Future Learning Initiative aims to support their projects and implement their ideas. The Freunde der TUM – Association of Alumni and Friends is providing a total of 20,000 euros for this purpose. Proposals can be submitted until 31 May.

Daniela Schwarz is the new Gender Equality Officer at TUM

121 sponsors support 906 students at TUM

Outstanding commitment to the Deutschlandstipendium

President Prof. Thomas F. Hofmann has appealed for donations for the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship at TUM: "There are only a few moments in life when we have the opportunity to shape our present and future. The Deutschlandstipendium, which provides financial support to particularly talented and committed students, is such an opportunity." This winter semester, 906 students are benefiting from it. The money comes from 121 sponsors and is doubled by the federal government.
