The four-part ARTE series "Temples of Culture - How Cultural Buildings Enhance Cities" examines how buildings, concert halls, museums, and opera houses can influence urban life and support urban revitalization processes. The former Chair of Urban Development, Prof. Alain Thierstein, and Dr. Nadia Alaily-Mattar from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) comment on the developments and explain the architectural connections.

The series sheds light on the "Bilbao effect" and the role of cultural buildings in urban development. It shows how these buildings not only attract tourists, but also create jobs and enrich cultural life.

Alain Thierstein was a professor at the Chair of Spatial Development at TUM until 2024 and specializes in urban development. Dr. Alaily-Mattar is a research assistant at the same chair and researches the role of architecture in spatial and social transformation processes, among other things.
