Information and support for international first-year students
Arriving at TUM
More than 4,000 international first-year students come to TUM every year. Here they receive an excellent education in a lively atmosphere and benefit not only from outstanding teaching but also from a colorful campus life. Our numerous offers for the coming winter semester help them immerse themselves fully in university life from their first day in Germany.
Getting to know the university
At the virtual Fit for TUM service fair from October 4 to 8, new students can get answers to all their questions about studying and student life, whether it's about housing, financing their studies or leisure activities. Introductory study days help them find their way around the new department and the new degree program. They can get to know fellow students at pub and game nights or networking meetings specifically for female students. And mentoring, tutoring and buddy programs for international and exchange students help with all the challenges of studying in a foreign country.
TUM offers numerous activities and services at the start of the coming semester to help students get acquainted with the campus and their new city as well as meet new people.
Diving into student life
The TUM Global & Alumni Office is organizing Orientation Weeks especially for exchange students from October 4 to 17. Here, for example, international students not only learn what to look out for when dealing with the authorities, but also get to know their new place of study with all their senses through guided tours of the city, visits to museums and joint leisure activities.
These events are supported by services and advice about living in Munich, financing your studies, and especially housing. With TUM Living, for example, the university offers a new free housing exchange for students. Info sessions and tips for apartment hunting help in finding accommodation. TUM International GmbH also offers a fee-based student relocation and onboarding service.
To ensure that their time in Germany is not just a study visit but a genuine intercultural experience, students can develop their language skills in a relaxed atmosphere at the TUMi Language Café. In intercultural seminars, they work on projects together with their fellow students from Germany and other countries, earning ECTS points in the process. And in international student groups or at the “Länderabend”, they communicate their own culture and thus make the diversity at our university tangible. Because those who truly arrive can bring a lot, and take back even more.
