Research projects and PhD scholarships in AI, health care and robotics
TUM and ICL launch joint programs
In October 2018, TUM and ICL announced that they will combine their strengths in research, innovation and entrepreneurship in a "Flagship Partnership". Now the first projects are being launched: ICL President Alice Gast and the president-elect of TUM, Prof. Thomas Hofmann, announced a joint PhD program for 10 students in London. The doctoral students will have access to the infrastructure of both universities and will be supervised by a total of 20 scientists from ICL and TUM. The scholarships are thematically located at the interface of health care, AI, and robotics - an field of interdisciplinary cutting-edge research in which both universities enjoy an outstanding reputation. With Prof. Sami Haddadin from the Munich School of Robotics and Machine Intelligence at TUM and Dr. Aldo Faisal from the Department of Bioengineering at ICL, the project is led by two of the world's most renowned experts in this field.
"Imperial-TUM Seed Fund" finances first joint projects
Prof. Gast and Prof. Hofmann also announced that the Imperial-TUM Seed Fund has invested in its first 20 joint research projects between the two universities. Among other things, exploraty research into windfarm efficiency and into so-called " trojan horses " in medicine and is supported. Furthermore, the TUM Global Incentive Fund has invested in 8 joint research projects.
Joint Summer School: Cities of the Future
Already for the third time TUM and ICL are organizing a joint Summer School this year. It will take place from July 1 to 5 in Munich and will deal with the topic "Cities of the Future". PhD students from all disciplines with a research focus on mobility, urban development and infrastructure are invited to apply from now on.
Panel discussion on "Science, diplomacy and our European future"
Today, Professors Gast and Hofmann visited the Goethe-Institut in London. During a panel discussion on "Science, diplomacy and our European future", both emphasized that TUM and ICL will continue to expand their cooperation in the coming years, whatever form Brexit may take.
