US officials to discuss sustainable innovations

United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai and US Ambassador Amy Gutmann will speak at TUM and at UnternehmerTUM on sustainable economies. US cabinet member Tai will discuss innovations and German-American trade relations on April 26. And on April 29 Gutmann will take part in a debate on start-ups and Circular Economy. The events, a part of Transatlantic Innovation Week, are open to the public.

How start-ups can succeed in the circular economy will be the focus of the Circular Economy theme day at Munich Urban Colab.

Transatlantic Innovation Week is an initiative of the US Embassy and the US Consulates in Germany, intended to strengthen German-American partnerships in the development of innovations. This year's event series concentrates on societal, economic and ecological sustainability. TUM has organized two public events together with UnternehmerTUM, the Center for Innovation and Business Creation:

The Trade-Off: Economics versus the Environment

Tuesday, April 26, 10:00 - 11:00 am

United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai will speak on economic, ecological and geopolitical aspects of promoting sustainable innovations, focusing primarily on US trade relations with Germany and the Euro zone. Her talk will be followed by a discussion with students from the TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology.

As a government cabinet member, the United States Trade Representative is the most important negotiator and spokesperson regarding the trade policy of the USA.

The topic will be introduced by Prof. Miranda Schreurs of the TUM Professorship for Environment and Climate Policy, Prof. Urs Gasser, Dean of the TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology and Timothy Liston, US Consul General in Munich.

Circular Economy Theme Day

Friday, April 29, 1:30 - 5:00 pm, Munich Urban Colab

The Circular Economy Theme Day will focus on how start-ups can be successful in a Circular Economy and on the potential role of entrepreneurial ecosystems in the transition of the economy to a Circular Economy model. US Ambassador Amy Gutmann will join a discussion with Philipp Gerbert, General Managing Director of TUM Venture Labs, Susanne Kadner, Managing Director of the Circular Economy Initiative, Christian Haessler, head of the Circular Economy program at Covestro AG, and Anne Lamp, Co-founder of Traceless Materials.

After the discussion, start-ups will present their solutions for a Circular Economy in a pitch session. Additional start-ups and initiatives from this sector will present themselves in an exhibition.
