The Center for Higher Education (CHE) compares various subject areas at universities in the German-speaking countries for its rankings. This time biology, chemistry, biochemistry, physics, medicine, sports science, informatics, mathematics and political and social sciences. The focus is on the responses of around 120,000 students. Universities are rated on a one to five-star scale in a wide range of categories.

In the most important category, the general study situation, TUM received ratings of 4.5 or 4 stars from its students in every subject. In many areas they awarded the same high ratings for teaching programs, digital learning elements, study organization and support from teaching staff.

TUM received excellent grades in many other categories, too. For example, chemistry students rated lab sessions highly, while physics and biology students praised exams and library resources, respectively. In mathematics TUM stands out for the support provided to students, in informatics for the IT infrastructure and in sports sciences for the facilities. Political and social science students are pleased with the support for stays abroad. Medical students highlighted the patient contact in their training.

In past CHE University Ranking editions, TUM also achieved excellent results in engineering, management studies and information systems.

Number 5 in the world for shaping Digital Leaders

Other rankings show that TUM is also among the top-rated universities at the international level for the quality of its degree programs. In the Digital Leaders in Higher Education rankings, it ranks among the top five, alongside Harvard University, the University of Cambridge, MIT and the University of Oxford. These rankings indicate how well universities prepare their students for the digital economy. HR managers also have a high opinion of TUM graduates. In the Global University Employability Ranking, which surveys around 11,000 managers in more than 20 countries, TUM holds the 13th position.
