Two top universities at a joint campus in Heilbronn
TUM and ETH Zurich join forces
Under the motto "For the Digital Age", the TUM Campus Heilbronn has been undergoing powerful development since 2018 with the support of the DSS in the key areas of digital transformation, family businesses, and information engineering, and with connectivity to the future AI Innovation Park Heilbronn. To this end, the DSS is financing a total of 41 professorships at the TUM School of Management and the TUM School of Computation, Information and Technology, 32 of them at the Heilbronn site. The professorships will be fully financed by the DSS for an initial period of 30 years, including equipment and infrastructure.
The Heilbronn education campus is now visibly expanded, with ETH Zurich as a strategic partner with new professorships in the core areas of computer science and data science. The campus in Heilbronn thus creates unique synergy opportunities for joint research initiatives and teaching programs between TUM and ETH in the field of digital transformation.
Europe-wide unique cooperation
The CEO of the Dieter Schwarz Foundation, Prof. Reinhold R. Geilsdörfer, said: "The cooperation with TUM has already had a very positive international impact on the scientific ecosystem in Heilbronn, as evidenced by numerous TUM partnerships with top international universities, including endowed professorships. The renowned TUM's extraordinarily positive development and leverage effect has prompted us to attract another top international university, ETH Zurich, to our educational campus. In cooperation with TUM, this will create unique synergy potential for Heilbronn."
TUM President Prof. Thomas F. Hofmann said: "With TUM and ETH Zurich, the Heilbronn Education Campus will, in the future, combine the expertise of two leading technical universities in one place. This is unique in Europe! And it will allow us to jointly advance research, teaching, and innovation on digital transformation at the highest international level."
ETH President Joël Mesot was also delighted: "The cross-border alliance will strengthen Europe's ability to provide its own answers to the major global challenges. We look forward to working with TUM and hopefully other top international universities in Heilbronn in the near future."
