QS World University Rankings by Subject 2015
TUM leading the way globally in physics, mechanical engineering and chemistry
The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2015, which assess individual subjects and compare universities, are based on data from the QS World University Rankings. The subject ranking is based on surveys of academics and employers taken over the last five years as well as the number of citations per scientific publication in each subject. For this, reference was made to datasets from the research citations database “Scopus”. A total of 894 universities from around the world were ranked in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2015.
TUM in the world’s top 50 for engineering and biological sciences
TUM made the top 100 in 14 different subjects, even reaching the top 50 in nine of these subjects. In architecture, which was included in the rankings for the first time this year, TUM was ranked among the fifty best universities worldwide. TUM’s biological sciences and civil engineering disciplines saw significant improvements in their rankings compared to the previous year, both breaking into the top 50.
TUM placed in the top 20 for physics/astronomy (14th), mechanical engineering (19th) and chemistry (20th). All of these subjects moved up compared to last year’s ranking.
TUM had already achieved a very creditable 54th place in last year’s QS World University Rankings, which were published in September 2014. Among the technical universities, TUM placed in the top five in Europe, and was ranked no. 1 in Germany by a large distance. The QS World University Rankings 2015 will be published this fall.
