Nature Index: TUM among the world's 100 best research institutions
Outstanding research in the natural sciences
The 68 science journals were selected by two scientific committees based on the results of surveys that asked researchers to name the most important journals in the natural sciences. The Nature Publishing Group estimates that 30 percent of all citations refer to these journals. Scientists from TUM were involved in 475 publications in these journals in 2013. The Index adds publications to the ranking scores proportionately if several authors are involved.
TUM is ranked 77th in the Nature Index, making it one of only three German universities to make it into the top 100, alongside LMU Munich (ranked 57th, 571 publications) and Heidelberg University (ranked 95th, 606 publications). The Max Planck Society (ranked 3rd) and the Helmholtz Society (ranked 8th) also feature in the Index.
TUM is Europe's fourth-best technical university after ETH Zurich, EPF Lausanne and Imperial College London.
Germany ranks 3rd in the country rankings behind the USA and China.
