Ludwig Medal
The TUM is awarding the Ludwig Medal as part of the celebrations to mark its 150th anniversary. Over the course of the anniversary year 2018 the President will award the medal to members of the university who have shown exceptional commitment and rendered great services to the university.
The medal is named after the founder of today’s university, Ludwig II, King of Bavaria. On Easter Sunday in 1868 (April 12th), he signed the decree for the establishment of the “Royal Bavarian Polytechnic School of Munich”.
The following people and organisations received the Ludwig Medal in the anniversary year:
Gold
Head of Central Department 6 - Health, Safety, Radiation Protection
Dr. Heinz Daake received the Gold Ludwig Medal in recognition of his exemplary commitment as a considerate and strategically skilled leader of the President's advisory team for mid-level academic personnel matters, in which he contributes significantly to TUM’s talent management.
Central Department 2 – Human Resources
Eva Fischer received the Gold Ludwig Medal in recognition of her dedication and exemplary service to the university in over 40 years of dutiful employment, in particular as a member of the TUM Human Resources team.
Structural Planning Development Munich Campus, Central Development 4 – Real Estate Management
Tanja Jovanovic received the Gold Ludwig Medal on April 13, 2018, “to mark the opening of the Tschira Forum, in recognition of her highly dedicated efforts on behalf of the restoration of TUM’s older buildings and especially during the reinforcement works carried out on the historical buildings on the main university campus on Arcisstrasse”.
Head of Department, Information Services, University Library
Dr. Caroline Leiß, representing the bibliometrics team of the University Library, received the Gold Ludwig Medal in recognition of her decisive and timely support of the TUM Board of Management within the scope of the University of Excellence proposal.
Head, Office of the President and Executive Assistant to the President
Dr. Benedikt Lickleder received the Gold Ludwig Medal in recognition of his exceptional commitment in the planning and implementation of the construction of the TUM Research Station Friedrich N. Schwarz.
Deputy Head, Central Development 4 – Real Estate Management and Executive Assistant to the Chancellor
Dipl.-Ing. Florian Loibl received the Gold Ludwig Medal in recognition of his exceptional commitment in the planning and implementation of the construction of the TUM Research Station Friedrich N. Schwarz.
Student Representative
Paul Maroldt received the Gold Ludwig Medal in recognition of his exceptional commitment to the planning, design and implementation of the studiTUM facilities, which afford new learning and meeting spaces for students at the TUM campuses in Munich, Garching and Freising-Weihenstephan.
Functional Unit 1 – Controlling, Organisation, Planning
Dr. Juliane Materna received the Gold Ludwig Medal in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the preparation and implementation of the TUM review within the scope of the Excellence Strategy.
Delegate Officer for Image and Marketing
Dr. Clarissa Ruge received the Gold Ludwig Medal in honor of the innovative films she submitted as part of the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the founding of TUM.
Deputy Head, Office of the President
Dr. Christine Rupp received the Gold Ludwig Medal in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the preparation and implementation of the TUM review within the scope of the Excellence Strategy.
The Klaus Tschira Foundation received the Gold Ludwig Medal in recognition of the generous contribution made to the restoration of the historical clock tower, the interior of which has been redesigned to house the Tschira Forum, an impressive space for events and representative purposes. The Medal was awarded April 13, 2018, when the restored clock tower was inaugurated.
Head of Fire Department Garching
Chief Inspector Jürgen Wettlaufer, representing the fire department of the TUM Campus Garching, received the Gold Ludwig Medal in recognition of exemplary professionalism in the implementation of state-of-the-art fire protection in the environment of highly complex technical facilities and laboratory structures.
