Redesigned Mechanical Engineering curricula, new Bachelor's and Master’s programs

New degree programs at TUM

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) will launch two new Bachelor's programs and three new Master's programs as of winter semester 2019/20. All curricula will teach specialized knowledge and its application in interdisciplinary future-oriented fields such as Bioengineering and Digital Medicine. At the same time, the Department of Mechanical Engineering has reconceived its complete spectrum of Master's degree programs, making it more interdisciplinary.

Curricula at TUM are focused on research and practical application. Wolfgang Maria Weber

New Bachelor's programs

  • As of winter semester the successful Bachelor’s program in Management and Technology (TUM-BWL) will also start at the TUM Heilbronn Campus, which opened in 2018. The curriculum combines economy and technology to optimally prepare graduates for work in technology companies. Students are trained for one semester in the new focus area of Digital Technologies at the TUM Engineering departments in Munich and Garching. (Teaching language: German, English, Application period: May 11 - July 15 for the winter semester)
  • The new Bachelor’s program in Life Sciences Nutrition at the TUM School of Life Sciences Weihenstephan focuses on how foodstuffs impact the human metabolism at the interface between Biochemistry, Medicine and Food Science. (Teaching language: German, Application period: May 11 - July 15 for the winter semester, November 1 – December 31 for the summer semester).

New Master's programs

  • The Master’s program in Biomedical Engineering and Medical Physics provides a research-related education at the interface between Natural Sciences, Engineering Sciences and Medicine. Students receive an early introduction to current research on the highest international levels and to the development of new methods for better prevention, diagnostics and therapy. (Teaching language: English, information on application after approval by the Bavarian Ministry of Science and Art)
  • The Master’s program Matter to Life is intended for students interested in pursuing a career in science; successful completion of the Master's program guarantees the entry in the doctoral program at the Max Planck School Matter of Life. From Bioengineering to Cell Biophysics the curriculum covers research strategies from the widest possible range of disciplines in the rapidly evolving field of designing life-related processes and systems. (Teaching language: English, information on application after approval by the Bavarian Ministry of Science and Art)
  • The Joint Master’s program in Science and Technology of Materials is offered together with the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg and teaches current materials manufacturing and materials characterization methodologies. Further treatment of the materials with regard to use in technical applications takes place at TUM. The materials are analyzed in particular with regard to their stability under actual conditions of use. (Teaching language: German, information on application after approval by the Bavarian Ministry of Science and Art)

Redesigned Master's programs at the Department of Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering has reconceived its Master's degree programs and oriented them more towards interdisciplinary future-oriented topics. In addition the curricula of the Department will in the future include more English-language modules: The Master's degree program in Aerospace has already been available completely in English and German since winter semester 2019/20.
