In his written congratulatory statement DTU President Overgaard Bjarklev emphasized Herrmann's decisive contribution to the establishment of the joint EuroTech office in Brussels and his efforts to make the alliance an efficient, productive and leading-edge platform whose voice is heard in the European Commission. Bjarklev also praised the stable bilateral partnership between DTU and TUM in research and teaching, which he said is characterized by mutual trust and close collaboration thanks to Prof. Herrmann's personal dedication.

In expressing his gratitude, Herrmann stated: "EuroTech, which I had the privilege of founding together with my DTU colleague Pallesen, has developed into a model for the alliance of leading European universities. Europe needs the united integrative power of science now more than ever."
