Just a year ago, hardly anyone had heard of ChatGPT. Today, students, teachers and researchers use the tool as a matter of course. TUM: Junge Akademie „What makes us Human?“
The application phase for a TUM: Junge Akademie scholarship has begun. The call for this year is: "What makes us Human?". The deadline for applications is August 31, 2023. The TUM: Junge Akademie is the support programme of TUM and its partner universities for exceptionally talented and committed students who are enthusiastic about the world of science at an early age. Academy of Writing for Students from Bavaria
"VOM VERSCHWINDEN" is the motto of the new Academy of Writing („Akademie des Schreibens“) organised by the Münchner Literaturhaus together with seven Bavarian universities. It is led by author Tobias Jügler and editor Tanja Raich. The weekend seminars TUM students can still apply up to and including September 1, 2023. The course is held in German. Study in Europe for a week with ATHENS
Short stay at one of 24 European partner universities: By attending one-week intensive courses and an accompanying European Dimension programme, you can get to know the life, teaching and mentality at a European host university and gain valuable experience abroad. The application round for the next ATHENS Week from November 18 to 25, 2023 year starts on September 9, 2023. The application for up to six desired courses is easily done online, via the ATHENS portal and TUM online application portal. More info: ATHENS Programme
Networking party for all doctoral candidates
TUMblue, the legendary networking event for all doctoral students, will finally take place at TUM again. After a pandemic break, the TUM Graduate Council is organising this year's event on September 15, 2023 in the Mathematics Building in Garching, Boltzmannstraße 3. The informal networking event, organised by doctoral students for doctoral students, brings together all graduate centres in an informal setting. Lunch with the TUM President
Have lunch with the President of TUM and exchange ideas with him face to face in a small group. The next TUM Presidential Student Lunch will take place on October 26, 2023 in Garching, for students of all degree programs offered there. When applying, please mention suggested topics, questions or ideas for the exchange with the President, keeping in mind that they are of interest to a larger group of students. When can I register for a language course? Where can I get support for my writing project? And how do I actually get a language certificate? As part of FitforTUM 2023, the Language Center will answer all questions about learning languages at TUM on October 10, 2023 at 10:00 am. Going abroad with TUMexchange
Would you like to go abroad? Make a note of the next TUMexchange application period in the coming winter semester! TUMexchange offers Bachelor's and Master's students of all disciplines the opportunity to spend a study-related period abroad at selected partner universities outside Europe. From October 17, 2023, the next applications for stays abroad in the winter semester 2024/25 and summer semester 2025 will be open. More info: TUMexchange
TUMcampus 2/2023: Proteins for the megacity
DiThe new issue of our university magazine accompanies TUM researchers in Singapore. Their mission: to supply the megacity with protein-rich food from soy and algae that can be produced locally. In the interview, the new Vice President Sustainable Transformation Werner Lang tells us how TUM can become more sustainable. And it is shown how researchers are helping to shape the industry of the future with digital twins and cybersecurity strategies. Plus: a look into the secret chamber of the Pyramid of Khufu. The group study rooms of the University Library are an ideal environment for collaborative learning. Reserve your study space digitally now! How does it work? Block courses in 15 languages
The programme for the TUM Language Center's block courses in September/October is now available in TUMonline (filter by "Block Course" or "Intensive Course"). Registration is also open now and closes 7 days before the course starts (see TUMonline for exact dates). All block courses in autumn count towards the summer semester 2023. There is an exception for German: The German block courses that take place in October count towards the winter semester (please change the filter in TUMonline). More info: TUM Language Center courses
Learning languages in the winter semester and much more
The TUM Language Center not only offers language courses in 17 languages, but also gives workshops on intercultural communication, connects students through tandem programmes and gives tips on the application process abroad in the "Global Minds" event series. There are also international evenings at the HFF cinema for the DIVERSITY film series. All dates for the winter semester will be announced on the website soon. More info: TUM Language Center. Over 600 new parking spaces for bicycles
To improve the cycling infrastructure in Bavaria, the federal government is providing special funding until the end of 2023. A total of over 600 new bicycle parking spaces will be created at the various TUM locations. At the campus in the Olympic Park and at Biederstein, the parking facilities have already been completed. At the tennis courts, over 120 new bicycle parking spaces are now available. In Garching, final paving work is underway for over 270 parking spaces. In Munich, there will be additional space for more than 40 bicycles in the Hochschulstraße area from the end of August, and another 60 parking spaces will be realised in the inner courtyard by autumn. At the Freising location and in Pasing, it is also planned to complete all construction work by autumn at the latest.
Dispensers for feminine hygiene products in selected WC areas
As of now, 25 dispensers for feminine hygiene products are available in particularly heavily frequented sanitary areas at the Munich campus with its campus in the Olympic Park, Garching and Freising. The costs are covered by the TUM from central funds. Feedback can be given via QR codes on the dispensers. The installation is the result of an initiative by the TUM Student Representation and was implemented by the Zentralabteilung 4 Immobilien.
Exhibition at the TUM Architecture Museum
The exhibition "Das Kranke(n)haus. How Architecture Helps Healing" at the TUM Museum of Architecture shows scientifically based approaches to hospital buildings that support healing. The exhibition is under the patronage of the Federal Minister of Health, Prof. Karl Lauterbach. The show in the Pinakothek der Moderne building in Munich can be seen until January 21, 2024.
