Gerhard Kramer re-elected Senior Vice President
In 2010 Prof. Gerhard Kramer was awarded a Humboldt professorship, regarded as one of the most prestigious among German research prizes. Since then he has held the Chair of Communications Engineering at TUM. Kramer's research focuses on the information density and information reliability of messages, enhancing network performance and optimizing information storage methods. In 2019 several companies set a new fiber-optic network speed record for data transmission using a method developed at his chair.
Born in Canada, Kramer studied electrical engineering at the University of Manitoba and earned his doctorate at ETH Zurich. He went on to work as an engineer at the Swiss IT firm Endora Tech, and then at Bell Labs, the research arm of Alcatel-Lucent (now Nokia). He was appointed professor at the University of Southern California in 2009.
