Investor and Formula 1 world champion supports TUM students

Cooperation between TUM and Nico Rosberg

The investor and Formula 1 world champion Nico Rosberg will collaborate with the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in the future. With his foundation Rosberg Philanthropies, he will support the TUM University Foundation as a sponsor, has announced a Student Challenge as part of the TUM Sustainability Day on 12 June in Garching, and will appear as a speaker at the TUM Speakers Series.

Future cooperation agreed: President Prof. Thomas F. Hofmann (l.) and Nico Rosberg

TUM President Prof. Thomas F. Hofmann emphasizes: "I look forward to working with Nico Rosberg. As a Formula 1 world champion, he has already demonstrated what can be achieved with a lot of courage, willpower, and a dose of daring. He will certainly also inspire our students to grow beyond their limits. I often hear that the next generation is not ready to achieve. I can only vehemently disagree. We have enough great young people who want to make a difference and change things. We just have to let them do it and support them."

Nico Rosberg says: "Inspired by my successful collaboration with the University of Oxford, I looked for a comparable opportunity in Germany and found the ideal partner for my foundation in TUM. According to rankings, TUM is the best university in Germany for the ninth time in a row and has also been named the best start-up hub in Europe by the Financial Times. TUM's commitment to promoting entrepreneurial thinking fits perfectly my values and goals. I am very pleased that our cooperation will get underway in June - and I look forward to everything we will achieve together with TUM students in the long term."

The "Cleantech Innovation Sprint" student competition organized by TUM Venture Labs involves Rosberg as well as other companies and organizations with specific tasks. Participants have five days to develop solutions in teams. The best proposals will then be awarded prizes at the TUM Sustainability Day on 12 June. On the same day, Rosberg will also discuss with students at the TUM Speakers Series and report on his experiences as an investor for sustainable start-ups.
