TUM Advent Matinee and Vivat TUM in the Philharmonic Hall at Gasteig
A musical finale to the anniversary year
TUM starts the Advent season with festive concerts in the Philharmonic Hall at Gasteig already for ten years now. Due to its great popularity, the event is divided into two parts: The Advent Matinee in the morning is aimed at students, staff and sponsors and the Vivat TUM in the afternoon at freshmen, alumnae and alumni.
TUM President Herrmann soloist at the organ
The musical program was provided again this year by the Munich Symphonic Ensemble under the direction of Prof. Felix Mayer and the TUM Choir, founded in 2013. TUM President Wolfgang A. Herrmann initiated the concerts in 2008 and since then has been regularly active as a soloist on the organ. During his welcoming speech, he stated that he intends to continue this tradition next year, after the end of his fifth and final term as president. The other soloists this year were TUM-Alumna Sylvia Dankesreiter at the piano, soprano Ute Ziemer, organist Friedemann Winklhofer and internationally renowned oboist Hansjörg Schellenberger, with whom Herrmann already enjoyed performing in Kelheim during their school years. Performances included works by Carl Maria von Weber, Johann Nepomuk Hummel, Richard Wagner, Domenico Cimarosa, Johannes Brahms, Ludwig van Beethoven and the " festive music for the 150th anniversary of TUM" composed by Franz Hummel.
Donation proceeds go to the TUM University Foundation
The proceeds from the charity concerts go to the basic assets of the TUM University Foundation to support projects and programmes at TUM. The non-profit organization was established in 2010 by donors from business and society and has since then found many new sponsors, especially among its alumnae and alumni. Today it is one of the largest university foundations in Germany.
