Award for former chairman of the Board of Directors of the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre
Federal Cross of Merit for Arndt Bode
Arndt Bode is one of the world's leading figures in the field of computer architecture and technical informatics. For this achievement, the former chairman of the Board of Directors of the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre has now been awarded the Officer's Cross of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Basis for high-performance computing
Bode played a pivotal role in the various developmental stages of parallel computing which eventually evolved into the high-performance parallel computer architectures of today. These formed the basis for the success of high-performance computing (HPC), which is now indispensable in the natural and engineering sciences, in life sciences, and recently also in the economic sciences.
Laudatory speech from Marion Kiechle
In her laudatory speech, minister Marion Kiechle paid tribute to Arndt Bode's contributions: "Also thanks to your research, Germany is at the forefront of the development of relevant computer architectures. With your great commitment both as a scientist as well as a promoter of the sciences, you have rendered outstanding services to science and research in an exemplary fashion."
