Reuters Ranking: "Europe’s Most Innovative Universities"
TUM ranked number four among Europe's most innovative universities
The ranking "Europe’s Most Innovative Universities" evaluated ten indicators in the period from 2010 to 2015, including:
- how many patents the universities applied for and were awarded
- how frequently these patents were cited in other patent applications
- how often the university's scientific publications were cited in patent applications as well as in industrial research publications
TUM has been ranked in the vanguard with Belgium's KU Leuven, Imperial College London and the University of Cambridge. Compared to the previous year, TUM swapped positions with École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). The EPFL is one of TUM's partners in the EuroTech Universities Alliance, as is the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), which was ranked 14th.
Other rankings attribute outstanding technology transfer performance to TUM as well: According to the current "Gründungsradar" ("Start-up Radar") of the business community's innovation agency for the German science system, TUM provides optimum support to start-ups (TUM is ranked number 1 among major universities). The "Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe" ranking, which spotlights especially innovative personalities under 30, lists as many as six TUM spin-offs.
