e-books at TUM:
A well-appreciated and huge range of offers
The University Library is involved in negotiations with publishers and retailers on your behalf, trying to settle on the widest possible usage rights. However, the possibilities in this regard are largely dependent on the individual provider’s licensing policy. For example, the companies regulate
- how many users can access an e-book simultaneously. This can vary from a single user to an unlimited number.
- what you can download. Many only allow you to download individual chapters; some limit downloads to a maximum number of pages, and others might allow you to save the entire e-book as a PDF-file.
- whether and how much you can print. Some providers might allow you to print the current page, but – in turn – not to download the file.
Thus, there are huge differences regarding the possibilities of using e-books – which can be irritating. If you have any questions, or problems accessing an e-book, the University Library will be happy to help.
