With PresenTeach, ProLehre supports young researchers as they start their teaching career
Learning to teach
For school teachers-to-be, didactics is an elementary component of their education. In contrast, for young scientists as future university lecturers, the focus is primarily on the development of subject-specific and methodological expertise. They often have to acquire didactic skills themselves. To act on this imbalance, TUM has set up the ProLehre | Media and Didactics department. It connects research in teaching and learning with the practical experience of university lecturers and the innovative teaching techniques opened up by educational technologies and digitization. With numerous programs and offers, the team supports teachers in all higher education and media didactic issues.
Training with didactics experts
With the new PresenTeach program, ProLehre specifically addresses doctoral students at TUM who already offer courses but have little experience in teaching. In the week from July 25 to 29, 2022, they can get feedback from experienced university didacticians.
For this purpose, teachers will present a 15-minute excerpt from their course, either alone or in a small group. ProLehre experts evaluate the presentation and provide practical tips and advice on how to improve the didactic aspects of the format. In this way, young university teachers can optimize their courses in a targeted manner and with little time investment.
The training sessions are free of charge for TUM doctoral students and take place in Munich, Garching, Weihenstephan or online. Registration is via the website at www.prolehre.tum.de/en/prolehre/programs-services/teaching-development/presenteach/.
