Prof. Dr. Rainer Blatt
100 years ago, quantum physics revolutionized our understanding of the world at a fundamental level. What was once considered a bizarre theory is now the basis for technologies that shape our everyday lives. In this lecture, we will take you on an exciting journey through the history and into the future of quantum physics. We will explain how it was possible to penetrate the world of atoms and decode their mysterious properties and how these findings have led to groundbreaking developments such as the transistor, the laser and GPS.
But this is just the beginning: in the 21st century, we are experiencing the next quantum revolution. We take a look at the exciting advances in quantum technology and show how quantum computers could change the world. From developing new materials to solving complex problems, the possibilities seem endless.
2025 - International Year of Quantum Science and Technology
When quantum mechanics was formulated in 1925, physics laid the foundation for our current understanding of nature. 100 years later, in 2025, quantum mechanics is having an impact on all areas of our culture, science, technology and art. UNESCO has therefore declared 2025 the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology.
