Lecture series "Science for everyone": Sepsis diagnostics
Event location

Presenter
Prof. Oliver Hayden
Thrombosis and sepsis are the main causes of preventable deaths. However, there are neither biomarkers for early detection nor diagnostic methods to prevent complications and personalize medication. The interactions between blood cells provide hidden diagnostic information that can support clinical decision making. We can access them with novel and cost-effective imaging techniques. To demonstrate the predictive power of blood cell aggregates, we characterized the disease severity of COVID-19 intensive care patients based on platelet aggregate dynamics.
