Event location
Hochland-Kino, Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Target audience

From 8 to 12 November, cinephiles can look forward to five consecutive days of masterpieces of cinematic art at the Hochland cinema in Partenkirchen, all of which have one thing in common: they look to the future, especially to artificial intelligence and robotics.

The special feature of this cinema series is the subsequent film discussions, to which the audience is cordially invited. Anyone who wants to can ask questions and take part in the discussion, because that is what this event is all about: providing food for thought on future issues that affect us all. On Saturday, November 9, after the screening of Eternal You - Vom Ende der Endlichkeit, cinema-goers will meet undertaker Markus Kaufmann and parish priest Andreas Kolb. The following Sunday, November 10, Caritas Garmisch-Partenkirchen will host a discussion with experts on the use of artificial intelligence. The discussion evenings and the entire cinema series will be opened on Friday, November 8, together with the Technical University of Munich, whose Geriatrics Research Centre will be happy to answer questions from the audience.

People all over the world are using services that bring the dead ‘back to life’ with the help of AI. ETERNAL YOU follows the pioneers of a technology that aims to make death obsolete. For example, Joshua, who chats with the digital clone of his deceased first love and lets her participate in his everyday life. Jang Ji-Sung, on the other hand, meets the VR clone of her deceased 7-year-old daughter. Numerous competitors are hoping for a lucrative market as religious and collective forms of mourning lose relevance. Is this even the beginning of the end of finiteness? On Saturday, 9 November: Discussion with undertaker Markus Kaufmann and parish vicar Andreas Kolb following the film. In cooperation with InnovationsraumGAP.

Today, on the other hand, he is an old, forgetful loner - and when his son Hunter forces a care robot on him, Frank is anything but enthusiastic at first. Until he comes up with the idea of enlisting his electronic helper as a new accomplice... ‘ROBOT & FRANK is a wonderful film about the unusual friendship between man and robot’. (Filmstarts).
