TUM welcomes 20 new visiting professors
International impetus for research and teaching
"As an international university we invite international guests to join us. Our students should learn at the earliest possible stage how the world works in other places," says TUM President Wolfgang A. Herrmann. The 'August-Wilhelm Scheer Visiting Professorship Program', named after an important TUM patron, is thus an important component in our internationalization strategy."
The 20 professors in the present fifth round are from renowned institutions including the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (India), Universidad de Buenos Aires (Argentina), University of California (USA), University of Queensland (Australia), Technion (Israel) and Trinity College Dublin (Ireland). They work in almost all of the TUM's core subject areas.
More than 80 visiting professors since 2015
The TUM has been able to attract more than 80 visiting professors since the program began in early 2015. The visitors provide important impetus to research at the TUM and convey to the students not only their expert knowledge, but also valuable insights into the academic cultures of other countries.
A selection committee consisting of experienced TUM Emeriti of Excellence and young tenure-track professors decides on acceptance to the program. Chosen candidates become members of the TUM Institute for Advanced Study, too.
