Lisa Debschütz: Commitment for the IKOM

Plenty of space for creativity

Actually, Lisa Debschütz always knew that she wanted to start a career in the field of technology. She had always been interested in computing, designing, and developing. However, the young mechanical engineer was also always interested in a practical connection with the industry – a goal she is now pursuing with her commitment for the IKOM.

In her second university semester, she started working for the career platform, which is entirely run by students – most recently as a project manager for “IKOM Start-Up”.

Special interest: project management

“IKOM Start-Up is our most recent career forum format, and it took place for the fourth time this year,” says Debschütz. “That is why it is still a challenge for us – also for me personally, because this is where I was involved in project management for the first time.”

The 22-year-old loves to take responsibility. During her pre-practical training at Porsche AG in Stuttgart, she showed a lot of ambition – and was given the opportunity to assist in the development department after completing her compulsory internship in the workshop, where she got an impression of the aspects of casting, transmission, and model building. It was back then that she realized that she really wanted to “make a difference”. “I was so happy that I was able to experience how dynamic this company is – and to get an impression of the conceptual processes of developing a new car,” she recalls.

Abroad with the exchange program "TUMexchange"

As she is even more interested in aerospace technology, she is currently working on her Bachelor’s thesis at the TUM Chair for Aerodynamics and Fluid Mechanics. “TUM has an excellent reputation in this area,” says Debschütz, who is from Böblingen. Her Bachelor’s thesis, for which she spends a lot of her time in the wind tunnel, will be submitted in autumn. At the beginning of next year, she will take part in the exchange program “TUMexchange” to get to know the English-speaking world – in Atlanta (USA).

“I like to travel and I am really looking forward to this experience abroad,” says Lisa Debschütz. Afterwards, she will be returning to Munich for her Master’s degree. She surely won’t get bored in the near future, as she has specific plans about what she wants achieve during the coming year.

Fencing helps to clear the head

Her commitment for IKOM Start-Up will of course be helpful for her ambitious plans: “I already had the opportunity to get to know many fascinating young companies that could also be interesting options for my own career one day.” She is also glad that the IKOM leaves plenty of space for creativity – a welcome compensation for her learning-intensive university life.

In her spare time, the likeable student often goes fencing – a hobby for which you need to be focused as well: “I tried the sport when I was twelve years old, and I stayed. In my spare time, I mostly go fencing at university sports, which is a lot of fun. It helps to clear my head, and afterwards, I feel like I was born again.”
