260 scholarships to be awarded in 2012:
Deutschlandstipendium National Scholarship Program at TUM
This is primarily thanks to our long-standing partnerships with companies and private sponsors, who contribute one half of the funds to match the federal contribution.
To begin with, the Karl Max von Bauernfeind Friends of TU München provided the first 30 scholarships in the spring of 2011. They were joined by the following sponsors in the autumn of 2011: MAN (60 scholarships), Allianz (8), Voith (6) and the BayWa Foundation (5). The scholarship certificates were presented to the first two groups of successful candidates on January 17, 2012. This occasion gave donors and scholarship-holders the first opportunity to become personally acquainted with one another.
In the words of TUM President Prof. Wolfgang A. Herrmann: “The National Scholarship Program is on its way to becoming a vital component of our existing scholarship scheme, which enables us to support our most talented students.” Federal Education Minister Annette Schavan added: “I am pleased that the TUM has been able to exploit its full funding quota and would like to thank everyone who made this possible – in particular, the companies and all the other supporters who provide money for the scholarships. By doing so, they show that they are taking responsibility – for educating young people and for the future of our country.”
The National Scholarships, amounting to 300 Euros/month are awarded for two terms to begin with, and may be renewed. Apart from the academic criteria, other factors like commitment and special personal circumstances are also taken into account. TUM attaches particular importance to women benefitting from the National Scholarship program. Students can apply online between February 3 - 19, 2012 for funding starting from April 1, 2012.
