Hans Fischer Senior Fellowship at the TUM Institute for Advanced Study
TÜV SÜD Foundation to support international guest scientists at TUM
“The TÜV SÜD Foundation is a renowned partner providing support for our fellowship program at the TUM Institute of Advanced Study. This move strengthens our commitment to knowledge sharing between top international experts across different disciplines – a concept that succeeded in the German government’s Excellence Initiative,” says President Herrmann.
The TÜV SÜD Foundation has been supporting international networking between scientists at TUM for some years now. Through the Hans Fischer Senior Fellowship, the Foundation is signaling an even greater level of commitment and is also the first private partner to be involved in this project. “We are delighted that international scientists will now be able to spend three years researching and teaching at TUM,” adds Horst Schneider. “This extended period of time will give scientists and students a much broader platform for exchanging ideas and experiences. It will also pave the way for much closer collaboration with guest professors’ home universities – we are very pleased to be supporting this initiative.”
One of the key components of the new collaboration is the right to confer doctorates. “It is an excellent idea to allow TUM students to obtain a doctorate from guest professors,” elaborates Herrmann Mund, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the TÜV SÜD Foundation. “This will intensify future knowledge transfer and drive scientific progress.”
TUM-IAS is part of the university’s Integrative Research Centers, which lead the way in opening up new, forward-looking fields of research at TUM. There are a number of different fellowship programs available at TUM-IAS that enable top scientists from universities and research institutes and leading lights from industry to spend extended research stays at the TUM.
The TÜV SÜD Hans Fischer Senior Fellowship is intended for research into the fields of energy efficiency and climate protection as well as test processes, product and plant safety, and risk and compliance management. The Foundation will provide a total of EUR 300,000 over a period of three years. Hans Fischer Senior Fellows will generally spend at least nine months of the three-year fellowship program at TUM-IAS working on interdisciplinary research initiatives with the TUM host. Joint supervision of PhD students promotes particularly close collaboration and actively supports young talent.
The aim of the TÜV SÜD Foundation is to advance technology and technical safety in all areas. It is a non-profit organization that supports the advancement of science, research, education as well as environmental protection and accident prevention. The TÜV SÜD Foundation is involved in numerous projects that are primarily designed to inspire interest among young people in technology and the natural sciences.
