August Föppl Medal
The Technical University of Munich (TUM) presents the August Föppl Medal to members of university staff who have made significant contributions to professional training. The medal is named after August Föppl (1854–1924), who was Professor of technical mechanics and graphic statics for many years.
Föppl published numerous textbooks and influenced the teaching of engineering sciences over many decades. He tirelessly encouraged and demanded independent thinking from his students, many of whom went on in turn to become renowned researchers.
