Medicine (Clinical Work)
Only students performing clinical work (from the 5th semester of enrollment onwards) can study at the TUM. To apply, please visit the TUMonline portal. The application needs to be made for the 1st clinical semester.
Students Transferring from Ludwig-Maximilans-Universität Munich:
In the preclinical semesters, you are enrolled at both LMU and TUM. Before the medical preliminary examination (“Physikum”), you have the possibility to apply for continuing studies at TUM.
If LMU has assigned you a place at TUM after the Physikum, you will receive a letter with relevant information. This letter is very important, please read it carefully! If you have not received it, please ask LMU.
Transfer to the TUM clinic will proceed as follows (in chronological order):
- LMU notifies you of your assignment and disenrolls you. Please apply to LMU for a refund of your semester fees; in the future, you will only pay them directly to TUM. Exception: If you are still enrolled in a a degree program other than medicine at LMU, you can continue to pay to LMU and provide proof of payment there.
- You log into TUMonline and create an online application for Medicine (Clinical Work) there. Please read the info at www.tum.de/en/studies/application/application-info-portal/online-application/onlineapplication-medicine carefully.
Important: Please use your existing TUMonline account for this purpose. All students of medicine at LMU will have their TUMonline login sent to their campus.lmu.de e-mail address approximately in the 2nd semester. If you do not remember your login, please request it from it-support(at)tum.de with a scan of your ID card attached as a PDF.
Please note: tudents who obtained their higher education entrance qualification abroad will be asked to upload a Preliminary Documentation (VPD) in the course of the online application. However, this is not necessary for students who received a place for the clinical work section in the degree program after completing the preclinical semesters at LMU in cooperation with TUM! Instead of the VPD, please upload the last proof of enrollment from LMU. - You submit an online application at TUMonline and upload the listed documents there:
• Higher education entrance qualification (e.g. Abitur certificate)
• Complete and current curriculum vitae
• Proof of Physikum / first part of the medical licensing examination - After your application has been processed, you will receive your admission to TUM. Now you have to
• accept your place in the degree program in TUMonline immediately;
• immediately transfer the semester fee directly to TUM (payment details can be found in TUMonline or on the Fees and Financial Aid pages);
• upload in TUMonline a current ID photo and proof of disenrollment from the university or universities attended so far
• initiate the digital transmission of your insurance status by a public health insurance provider - You print out the application for enrollment from TUMonline and sign it. Then submit the application by mail (the mailing address is on the application) and attach
• a certified copy of your higher education entrance qualification (e.g. Abitur certificate) as well as
• a certified copy of the proof of the Physikum / first part of the medical licensing examination.
As soon as your application with the documents has been processed, you will be enrolled at TUM.
Please note: Take all steps to transfer to TUM as soon as possible after you are assigned. Assignments are usually made shortly after the semester begins, so it is important that you complete your enrollment at TUM within the next 14 days.
If you have any problems or questions that are time-critical, please call us at +49 89 289 22245 or contact the Service Desk.
Students Applying Externally (Non-LMU Students)
Students from other universities, or students who completed their preliminary examination abroad and have had it recognized by the State Examination Board (Landesprüfungsamt), are welcome to apply from:
05/15-07/15 for admission to the winter semester.
11/15-01/15 for admission to the summer semester.
Applications and a list of required documents are found on the TUMonline portal, the date of receipt applies. Given that the preliminary examination usually isn't completed until after the application deadline for the first higher-upper division semester in clinical work, it may be submitted until the start of the lecture period. A further extension of the deadline for submission may be granted in individual cases upon request as far as it is possible within the due process of admission.
NB: Current information on the maximum number of students who can be admitted to the clinical studies portion of the program can be found in the admissions statutes. LMU and TUM students have admissions priority. Any spots not claimed by these students will be made available to students from other universities.
For specific legal provisions pertaining to admissions, see in §35 Paragraphs 2 and 3 of the Bayerischen Hochschulzulassungsverordnung [Bavarian Higher Education Admissions Regulations]
