TUM IDEAward Award Ceremony & Event
Every year on the last Thursday in November, TUM and UnternehmerTUM host the TUM IDEAward, the annual award ceremony for the ideas competition of the same name, supported by the Zeidler Research Foundation.
Ten founding teams are waiting that day to present their exciting and innovative ideas and/or technologies to the audience. They have been pre-selected from countless competition entries by a jury of experts and have made it to the final round of ten finalists.
In the end, the three most promising start-up ideas from science, which are expected to have a great market potential, will be awarded. They can look forward to prize money totaling 37,500 euros.
In addition to exciting idea pitches, the stage program is accompanied each year by keynote speakers, start-up Q&A and the festive awards ceremony. In addition, there will be a networking session afterwards where the teams and numerous representatives of the TUM & UnternehmerTUM ecosystem will have the opportunity to exchange ideas live.
GET CONNECTED
We want to bring people together and promote the exchange between founders, students, scientists, corporates and investors. In the second part of the evening, you will have the opportunity to talk personally with our 10 IDEAward finalists and to find out about the current offers for start-up support from TUM and UnternehmerTUM.
It doesn't matter if you are just discovering the topic of innovation & start-up for yourself or if you are already an experienced topic expert: We welcome all those interested in start-ups. We are looking forward to a colorful variety of guests from the innovation ecosystem of TUM and UnternehmerTUM, to old acquaintances as well as new faces.

The finalists of the TUM IDEAward 2024 in a short introduction:
Imagine a world where you do not wait weeks for a doctor's appointment, and during your visit, the doctor focuses entirely on you, not their computer screen. Today, doctors lose 45% of their time to paperwork instead of patient care. Aeirmed, the EU's first all-in-one AI solution for ambulatory care, reduce this administrative burden. This allows doctors to see five more patients daily, provide better care, and boost practice revenue by €216,000. Tailored specifically for EU healthcare systems, we are addressing the unique needs of European doctors, patients, and healthcare systems. Happy doctors, happy patients.
Aiina Robotics develops intelligent, AI-driven construction robots that enhance productivity and minimize safety risks on construction sites. Our modular and autonomous robots can perform a variety of construction tasks, such as concrete restoration or painting. We focus on automating labor-intensive and dangerous tasks, helping alleviate labor shortages while significantly increasing efficiency. With advanced sensors and AI-powered environmental perception, our robots can navigate complex, dynamic construction environments safely. Our mission is to transform the construction industry with flexible, innovative solutions that are both sustainable and safe.
Our idea focuses on developing modular small-scale biogas plants that convert organic waste directly at its source into energy and high-quality byproducts. Through innovative design, we enhance the efficiency and stability of the process compared to existing small-scale systems. Our solution provides a sustainable and cost-effective option for small and medium-sized businesses such as restaurants, hotels, sustainable living communities or small farms, enabling them to locally recycle their waste and generate energy. This reduces CO₂ emissions and waste management costs. Our technology supports the circular economy while offering a renewable, independent energy source. AutarkiTech aims to make a significant contribution to the bioeconomy and enhance its economic benefit.
Head and neck cancers are aggressive malignancies and represent the 7th most common cancer worldwide. Despite various innovations in tumor therapy, 5-year survival remains low at 54%, mainly because symptoms appear late and therefore the majority of carcinomas (approx. 70%) are detected late and at an advanced tumor stage. Bioexotec has developed a liquid biomarker from blood and saliva that can be used to determine quickly, easily and atraumatically head and neck cancer, especially at an early stage of the disease. This involves analyzing the RNA from the smallest vesicles, the exosomes. The test is initially offered as a service. A kit for independent use as a microfluidic system in laboratories and a saliva self-test kit for patients will be developed in the future.
Enki Interdentalis is developing an innovative solution to make cleaning interdental spaces as simple, fast, and effective as possible, aiming to replace disposable items like dental floss or interdental brushes in the long term.
Our product consists of two main components – a 3D-printed, customized splint (Enki splint) combined with a water-air compressor. Based on a digital dental scan, the exact fit of the Enki splint is guaranteed, minimizing the risk of user error. It features a tube system and optimally placed nozzles directed toward the interdental spaces to prevent gum injuries. The compressor generates a water-air mixture (microdroplets) that, due to its high kinetic energy, cleans all interdental spaces from plaque and food debris within seconds.
Our device would particularly benefit those with motoric disabilities, such as people in need of care or disabled individuals, by helping them achieve better oral hygiene. In this way, the risk of gum diseases like periodontitis and associated general health risks is reduced (e.g. Diabetes, Stroke).
MediOwl revolutionizes the management of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by offering a smart, predictive solution that empowers both patients and healthcare providers. At the core of MediOwl’s technology are digital biomarkers continuously collected via medical patches, monitoring the patient’s health parameters. Leveraging artificial intelligence, our app can predict flare-ups before they happen, providing patients with timely, actionable insights. Patients gain a greater understanding of their condition and receive personalized recommendations on life-style changes—such as exercises, stress management, and nutrition—that can help prevent future flare-ups. For doctors, MediOwl offers a seamless dashboard that tracks patient health data between appointments, allowing them to make better-informed decisions and reduce appointment times by up to 30%. This not only improves patient outcomes but also addresses the growing issue of doctor shortages by streamlining care and increasing efficiency within hospitals and clinics. MediOwl ensures a holistic, data-driven approach to better health out-comes for patients, more efficient workflows for doctors, and optimized resource utilization for healthcare institutions.
Oryx Medicals is developing an innovative, additively manufactured mechanical heart valve that can be implanted minimally invasively through Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI). Currently, patients must choose between mechanical valves with long lifespans that require invasive surgery, or biological valves that can be implanted with TAVI but only last around 10 years. Our solution combines the advantages of both: a durable heart valve that can be implanted minimally invasively. Leveraging advanced additive manufacturing technologies, we create patient-specific heart valves that are precisely tailored to individual anatomy. This approach leads to faster recovery times, fewer complications, and significantly reduces the need for reoperations. Our goal is to enhance patients' quality of life while lowering healthcare costs through more efficient, long-lasting treatments.
Climate change and resource scarcity are two of today’s biggest global challenges. At ReduCO2, we address both. Our mission is to convert CO2 into a durable raw material, thereby actively reducing atmospheric CO2 concentrations while providing a stable resource supply. We have developed a catalysis-independent process that mimics the natural formation of graphite in certain rock types. By using CO2 from various sources, such as point emitters or the carbon capture industry, and combining it with green hydrogen, our continuous crystallization process produces high-quality, customizable graphite with water as the only by-product. Unlike traditional methods, which are energy-intensive and CO2-heavy, ReduCO2’s process is carbon-negative, transforming emissions into valuable resources. With graphite demand projected to exceed supply by 2030, ReduCO2 offers a sustainable, profitable solution for converting CO2 into value.
SocialGuide is a digital social consultant that simplifies the application process for social benefits. Both co-founders have an immigration background and are familiar with the challenges of bureaucracy through personal experience.
SocialGuide assists users in determining which social benefits they are entitled to and helps them gather the necessary documents. Using AI, the platform ensures that the correct documents are submitted, the forms are filled out, and it even allows applicants to complete them in their native language.
SocialGuide empowers individuals and reduces the workload for social consultants. If every 10th person used SocialGuide, organizations like Caritas could assist 250 more people daily.
