Commemorative event for the book burning of 1933
Munich reads – from burnt books
Event location
Königsplatz, Munich
Public event
On May 10, the 91st anniversary of the book burning by the National Socialists in 1933, this dark chapter will once again be commemorated in Munich. The book burning, in which around 50,000 people, including many students and academics, took part at the time, was the beginning of an unprecedented persecution and systematic murder of millions of innocent people by the Nazi regime.
To commemorate these events, the event "Munich reads - from burnt books" will also take place on Königsplatz in 2024 from 10 am to 6 pm. With readings from the works burned at the time, the participants will set an example against forgetting and for democratic values. The Technical University of Munich (TUM) is actively involved in this initiative, including a reading by Prof. Michael Molls at 11:10 am.
If you would like to attend or even read at Königsplatz yourself, please contact Dr. Birgit Herbst-Gaebel, TUM Senior Excellence Faculty, with any questions (see Conctact).
